New Orleans Episcopal Churches and NOPD Team Up in New Gun-Buyback Program ... July 14, 2008 (New Orleans)—A group of New Orleans area Episcopal churches, including St. Anna’s and Christ Church Cathedral, is working in cooperation with the New Orleans Police Department on “Horns for Guns,” an upcoming gun-buyback program that could take up to 300 guns off of New Orleans’ streets.

The goal of “Horns for Guns” is to reduce violence in the city and provide a creative, constructive outlet to the city’s youth by trading guns for musical instruments, musical training, and opportunities for counseling.  Mentoring by local renowned musicians will be provided.

 

St. Anna’s is requesting that new or lightly used instruments (brass, stringed, etc.) be brought or shipped by Sept. 3, 2008, to St. Anna’s Episcopal Church, 1313 Esplanade Ave., New Orleans, LA 70116.  Monetary donations for purchasing instruments, graphic arts supplies, etc., are also requested.
