Hurricane Gustav Update and Emergency Information
The Diocese of Louisiana is a mission-oriented Diocese of the Episcopal Church in the United States. We are proudly part of the worldwide Anglican Communion and share in the Eucharistic Community with the Archbishop of Canterbury.
A look at our Mission and Vision Statements demonstrate that we strive to live not for ourselves alone but in our ministry to those for whom Christ died and was raised and who seek the joy of life in a Christian community.
I invite you to visit any of the Churches in the Diocese of Louisiana. I hope you will find there a community which seeks to honor our Lord Jesus Christ and which will warmly welcome you.
+Charles E. Jenkins, Bishop
Mission Statement
The Diocese of Louisiana is, by grace, a vital community, reborn in the wake of tragedy, forging a new and prophetic environment of healing, trust and empowerment as servants of Jesus Christ
Vision Statement
The Diocese of Louisiana is one church, faithful to our Lord Jesus, united in mission, reaching out through service and proclamation to all for whom Christ died. We live in joyous expectation of God's transforming power, compassion, and mercy in our lives.
An Important Message from the Bishop, 26 Aug, 2008:
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Hurricane Gustav looks to be making its way into the Gulf this weekend and we can take no chances in protecting our families, congregations, and especially the weak and sick amongst us
I encourage you to meet with your staff and put your Disaster Emergency Plan into action as appropriate. Louise and I are making our own personal preparations, and I am working with my staff in both New Orleans and Baton Rouge to insure a coordinated response to the events of the next several days
The three year anniversary of Katrina is upon us. If the Lord has taught us anything through this ordeal it is that the Church needs to be ready to care for her people. Take care and be ready, and may God bless us all.
+Charles
