Recycle Your Christmas Tree

Happy New Year! Start your new year off right, recycle your Christmas tree! Across Louisiana, there are many different organizations that need your Christmas trees for recycling/restoration projects. It’s easy! Most parishes will pick up the tree curbside and others have specific drop off sites. Trees need to be clean from all lights, ornaments, and flocking.

Jefferson Parish:

Christmas trees will be collected curbside throughout unincorporated Jefferson Parish, Gretna, Harahan,
Kenner, Lafitte and Westwego on January 11, 12 and 13, 2018. Trees will be recycled for beneficial re-usemarsh
restoration and/or composting. Residents are advised to place trees curbside on the evening of Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Baton Rouge:

Tree Curbside Pickup – East Baton Rouge Parish pick up range is Jan. 8-21 (excluding Baker and Zachary). Trees might be picked up on non-scheduled days, so leave tree out during that 2-week window. Tree Drop Off -Sites open through January 26, 2018 at these locations: BREC Parks: Independence Park, parking lot off Lobdell – between tennis courts and Liberty Lagoon; Highland Road Park, 14024 Highland Road Memorial Stadium, grassy lot near the corner of Scenic and Moss; Flannery Road Park, 801 S. Terrebonne Parish:

To participate in this program, residents of Terrebonne Parish are requested to place their Christmas trees in the area of their normal garbage pickup from January 3, 2018 to January 5, 2018. Residents may also drop off their Christmas trees at any of the TPCG residential drop-off sites at the following locations:
263 Ashland Landfill Road in Houma
651 Isle of Cuba Road in Schriever
160 Crochetville Road in Montegut.

Orleans Parish:

Orleans Parish residents eligible for garbage collection by the city are encouraged to recycle their Christmas trees by placing them curbside, before 5 a.m., on their regularly scheduled second collection day that
occurs between Jan. 11–13, 2018 for properties served by Richard’s Disposal and Metro Services.
Properties in the French Quarter or DDD, served by Empire Services, should place their trees curbside before 4 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018.

St. John the Baptist Parish:

Beginning January 5-13th, the Department of Public Works will collect trees around the parish for
recycling. Residents should place their trees curbside for pick-up instead of discarding them in the

St. Tammany Parish:

St. Tammany Parish will again accept Christmas trees for recycling. On the Western side of the Parish, residents can drop off their trees at the St. Tammany Parish Fairgrounds in Covington.  The Parish would like citizens to use the entrance by Lyon Elementary. On the Eastern side of the Parish, the old Levee Board building in Slidell located at 61134 Military Road is the designated drop off location. Only bare, green trees will be used; no flocked trees, no trees with ornaments, and no trees with lights will be accepted and recycled. Trees that are placed out on the curb for trash collection may not be recycled. Contact your trash collection company to find out if they participate in a tree recycling program.  The program will begin on January 3, 2017, and the last day for dropping off trees will be January 29, 2017.  Trees may be dropped off between the hours of 7:30am – 3:30pm Monday through Friday.
