“Planning for Your Future and Legacy” Resource Fair
August 24 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
St. Martin’s Episcopal Church
2216 Metairie Rd, Metairie, LA 70001

The Congregational Consultants for Stewardship of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana invites all New Orleans area residents to attend “Planning for Your Future and Legacy,” a resource fair for end-of-life planning on Thursday, August 24 from 11 am until 1 pm. Several community experts representing a range of agencies will be on hand for round-table discussions lasting about thirty minutes each. The fair promises an in-depth discovery of the many decisions to be made for end-of-life care.

The wide variety of topics to be explored at this fair include Advanced Funeral Plans; Advanced Funeral Service Planning and Church Traditions; Living Wills, Powers of Attorney; Financial Preparations for the Final Years; Remembering the Church in your Will; Medicare; Self-Care; Caring for the Elderly.

“Planning for Your Future and Legacy” seeks to address the need for thoughtful decision-making and articulated final wishes before a major decline in health makes it impossible. A recent NPR article (February 2017) noted that, “Only about a quarter of American adults have an advance directive, according to a 2014 study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.” This is just one area where failure to plan creates stress and anguish when difficult decisions arise.

Becky Williams, director of Health Ministries at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge and event co-organizer, points out, “Thinking about and planning for the end-of-life journey isn’t always the easiest thing to do, yet you can do it…and thus give your family the gift of knowing how you want to take this journey when you may be unable to speak for yourself.”

The “Planning for Your Future and Legacy” resource fair will begin at 11 am on August 24 at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, located at 2216 Metairie Rd, Metairie, LA. Three round-table sessions lasting thirty minutes each will be offered, with breaks in between.
