One of the oldest and largest parishes in the Diocese of Louisiana, St. James is frequently looked to for its leadership and stability. Whether through spiritual renewal, volunteer ministry, traditional outreach or community fellowship, St. James’ continually welcomes a wide variety of interests and individuals to the historic downtown location.
St. James Day School makes up a significant part of weekly campus life with almost 300 students in Pre-K3 through 5th grade. The relationship between Church and School has strengthened both and allowed God’s grace to enrich the lives of countless families. The Day School has been recognized twice as a National Blue Ribbon School and was recently named an Apple Distinguished School for its innovation melding a traditional education with the latest educational technology.
St. James has embraced the responsibility of calling its next rector, intentionally taking time to learn more about itself as a parish in that process. Hundreds have committed to listening, talking and praying together. By understanding its opportunity and challenge, St. James Church seeks to be greater than the sum of its many parts as it lives the Gospel message today and assures that message thrives for generations to come.
